Last night I attended a reception at one of the shows where I have work hanging. The crowd was filled with browsers, customers, those who make it a habit of visiting monthly gallery events and fellow artists. The "air" was filled with art talk - both serious discussions of composition, value, technique, etc. or how a particular piece simply "spoke" to someone evoking a strong emotion with subject matter, color or in some other more basic way. Whether involved directly in a conversation or picking up snatches of one as you passed through the crowd you could not help but be drawn into taking a fresh look both at the work exhibited on the walls, but at art in general.
Sometimes we all as artists need to actually come out of our studios, go to events such as this, and talk to other artists and those that are viewing our work. It is enlightening, refreshing and can be quite inspiring. The inspiration is everywhere if we are willing to find it.
